Bahamas Final Day

25 Feb

For our final day activities, WT chose the swedish massage at the spa. I decided on the lunch and wine tasting option at the Graycliff Restaurant.

The cellar housed over 250,000 bottles of wine, and the oldest most expensive one is a 1726 sweet riesling valued at over $200,000. They wouldn't let us taste that one. The five course lunch and accompanying wine was great. We also toured the facilities, which is a hotel and cigar rolling factory as well.

These cigar rollers are real Cubans, and there were six or seven of them hand rolling cigars. The cigars cost from $15 to hundreds of $$ each. I saw one on the posters that was about a 1.5 foot long. Wouldn't want to be smoking one of those in a crowded lift, might lose half of it when the door closes.

HP dinner that evening was again outside. They had spent all week setting up the stage and tents for this. They were serving BBQ food. I had some lobsters.

The band playing was Huey Lewis and the News. They were pretty good and played all the familiar hits. As it happened, we were treated to fireworks from across the channel in Nassau. Apparently, it was the opening ceremony of the new sports stadium.

Dinner and concert was over by 11pm.

After that WT and I headed back to the casino in Atlantis Tower. We decided to go to the Aura Nightclub. You can just make out the dancer over WT's shoulder. Entry is complimentary for hotel guests on Thursdays. On Fridays and Saturdays, the boy has to pay $25 cover. The DJ played bass heavy thumping house music. We did dance a little when they played some BeeGees music. You get a stamp on the hand that glows under ultraviolet light. That was our final night.

Next morning I wandered down to the pool while WT was sorting out the packing. Some final shots of the resort.

We retraced our route home via Miami, LA, Auckland and then Welly. The longest layover was 2 hours in LAX terminal 4. It was handy that American Airlines arrived and Qantas (to Akl and Brisbane only) departs from this terminal. I went to the Spicy Chilli bar for a couple of beers. They ask everyone for ID here, and it was funny watching an elderly couple being asked. One of the patrons asked the bar tender for her ID too. He told her that he didn't want to risk being served by a minor.

That's for this trip. Look out for Marcus and my gap year trip on the 15 March. First stop Paris.
